The Internet is supposed to be accessible to everyone and equal for use by any, however, in the real world, this is not the case. An example of an organization that is making an effort towards this ideal is the Detroit Community Technology Project, whose goals are to: increase Internet access through the distribution of shared Gigabit Internet connections in three underserved neighborhoods, increase Internet adoption through a Digital Stewards training program that prepares residents with online skills, and increase pathways for youth into opportunities for Detroit’s burgeoning Innovation District. Another effort that is trying to bridge this inequality is called UNNIO, which creates a fair and transparent blockchain based reward ecosystem that promises to change the way how creative content is compensated on the Internet. UNIFUL is the rewards platform, that can be expanded to infinity, and serves all types of monetization. With their launch, UNIO will have the chance to reimagine and redistribute web revenue, using cryptocurrencies. Though the Detroit Community Technology Project takes a more personal approach to the goal, and UNNIO uses cryptocurrencies to redistribute wealth, both are valid methods of achieving equitable internet.
